a community based arts documentation

We started the MTZine as a means of documenting the life, times, and art of the fine city of Martinez, California.  We aim to provide the citizens of Martinez with a sense of community and connectivity to their environment and the individuals within it. Our project is a communal arts collaborative in which art is shared, experienced and participated in by all who choose to join our quickly growing network. We pursue this project with the soul motivation of family, friends, life and art. We hope that anyone who may stumble upon this humble project may find within its parameters inspiration. Inspiration to connect, share, and create. Push the limitations of monotony in life and expand your mind to reach for the stars.

“Life is an art which we passionately create”

Up and Running

Well, its finally happened, the MTZine has launched its first official website. We hope that you find the contents of our newest creation to be easy to navigate as well as an eclectic collection of work. As always, we are still graciously accepting any art donations you may want to make. Whether it be film, music, painting, drawing, photography, poetry or any other medium we have forgotten to mention, we shall except it and post it up on this brand new site. In coming months, expect to see changes to both this site as well as our myspace site. Eventually we will be phasing artist profiles off myspace and keeping them solely on our website.  Who knows who may be lurking in the Myspace shadows, and we aim to keep your beautiful art perfectly safe and happy.  Keep checking our website for updates and/or changes and above all, enjoy.

Two of our events are shown here to the left and above,  Fall Fest, our first show at Armando’s, and Downtown Drop at Ferry Street Station.  Both events showcased local musicians who have both a passion for expression and performance.  The now growing music scene within Martinez has been aided by the help and creativity of Rick Cook of Ferry Street, Roy Jeans of Armando’s and Eric Akeson of Martinez Vibes. With the support of local businesses music has become encouraged and supported in the downtown region of Martinez. Both Ferry Street and Armando’s have allowed our project a place to express and expand, giving us the support needed to get up and get jamming.
